The Cooky Book

A reprint of Betty Crocker's Original 1963 Cook book is back on the shelves!

I remember the first time I saw it. It's red cover stood out against the bland blue and gray spines of all the other books in the St. Mary elementary school library. And when I opened it , I was hooked.

I probably borrowed the Cooky Book 30 times from the library between first and eighth grade. Mom and I made the cookies, and some of the recipes have made their way onto the tattered index cards that are my family's culinary lexicon.

Last week, I saw that red spine poking out again, at a local bookstore. And I instantly recognized it. I had forgotten about it until then, when a rush of giddy-excitement pulsed through me and I bolted to the checkout, book in hand, without a second thought.

I've had it a week and have made two batches of cookies. They were both fabulous. Now, I'm anxiously awaiting holidays and birthdays, so I'll have an excuse to make more.

This book is a must have. Even if you are a horrible cook and set toast on fire, you need it. You'll keep it forever.
